I got this 5 quart Penn Drake can off a fellow Old Gasser. I took it out of the box & saw something different. The outside of the can looks normal then on the inside there is another 5 quart that says Penreco & has a man with a red overcoat towards the top. Has anyone ever heard of this Co or are they a earlier Penn Drake can? Also how rare is the can on the inside?

Was not unusual for can companies to reuse pre-printed sheets to prof/finish printing an order. A bit more unusual to find an unrelated oil company inside.

Strange! Don't know what to make of that! Makes me think that they had some tin blanks laying around and rather than waste the material, they flipped it over and printed the other side! Very interesting!

Hey guys! Penn drake & Penreco is all in one of the same company.
The Pennsylvania Refining Co. made both brands. Thus, PE-RE-CO.
They were/are located in Western PA. north of Pittsburgh.

Right on Dennis. As much as I personally like Penn Drake cans, that Penreco is definately the better one of the 2.
