A friend told me about a pump in an old barn. We went to see it today and this is what we found.

What do you think it's worth? It's a Fry Guaranteed Model 117.

He told me about this pump over a year ago. He described it to me and I thought it might be a Mae West. He said he might buy it and he wouldn't tell me where it was. I told him that if it is a Mae West it is very, very valuable.
He finally decided a year later that he wasn't going to buy it so he gave me the option. When we went to look at it he said "Is it a Mae West?". I said "no, it's a Fry 117." What else could I say?!!! I don't want him to know it it a valuable pump, otherwise he would want it.

Your friend didnt do any research on this pump? Big loss on his part. And your gain! once he see,s this post I dont think he,s going to tell you about any more treasures and probably not going to be your friend any more. Excellent find.

Great find. Let me tell ya my story. Several years ago when I bought my 1st visible, I ran an ad in paper, "Wanted, Old Gas Pumps". I got 1 call. Went to look at it and found a rusty, pile of scrape laying on the ground. No cylinder, no conduit, handle broke off, etc. Although I had Jack's ID book, I had no idea what it was. Almost walked away, but paid him $200. and loaded it up. When I got home, I stood it up, stood back and looked at it. "HOLY COW!!! I GOT A MAE WEST!!!
I've got it sand blasted, most of body work done, parts bought, and almost ready to paint. When it's done, it goes in stairway landing, close to the "Christmas Tree Pump"

I am his friend, but not the friend that found it. I would have bought it if I found it. That is a cool pump.

Yeah, I guarantee if Matt found it before me, I wouldn't get the chance to buy it. The man that told me about it isn't really a collector. He just has one Bennett 541, and that's all he is interested in.
As time goes on, I'm sure I will get that pump too.

I think this is going to be a great Christmas for me. My friend Matt selling me his 900 series Bennett, and getting this Mae West from another friend.
All with my wife's permission!! Infact, her money too!!!

...reading your post - is it just me, or does it sound like you'd rather have the pump than the friend? confused
