When I was stationed at White Sands I stopped at that station a couple of times while cruising the state. Hadn't thought of that place in over 30 years, thanks for the photos and the memories that they brought back.

IT would be excellent if he could restore the big sign in the back ground. And do up in neon like it use to be. Very costly he said he, going to try and paint it in the spring.

don't have any pic's of any stations....but here are two cans that I picked up at the last Dixie show.

quart can came from my good friend Dave "canasouras" Thompson
and the two gallon from my friend Wayne Story.

Notice that on the quart that Whiting is spelled buy using the car grill with the headlights with eyes.
the two gallon for motor, again the headlights for the O.

Not trying to start anything, because I don't know anything about the company...just bought the cans because of the graphics.

I don't have a whiting bros oil can. just a map. that's what I was refering to I'v only seen one Whiting Bros. oil can and it was cardboard can. from what research I have done and other collector I have talk to that collect bands that were mainly on Rt. 66 Whiting Bros. did not make a hole lot of signs or globes. all of the advertising they had were wood signs and decals. I also have a pump door with newer decal of newer log. There may have been two different Whiting Bros. company's .

At one time there was 3 UNION CO'S. So more than 1 Whiting Bros. doesn't surprise me.

I've spent the better part of my life in the heart of their marketing area,so I know quite a bit about their operations.I think this one has gone far enough, but if any of you want more info on them I'll post it.

Hi Guys,

I can't improve on the history of Whiting Bros. gas stations already presented by the well done article in the May 06 issue of CTO and the links posted by DB and Paddy.

What I can do is expand on a point made in the link posted by DB That the Whitings appear to have started out as sawmillers, lumber people, not gas station operators.

I think Whiting Bros. gas stations were a part of a larger business called Kaibab Industries which also included several sawmills.I'm not positive, but it would appear that Whiting Bros. was a division,so to speak,of Kaibab Industries at some point in the past.
