I just received a call from a guy about a gas pump and if I wanted to buy it. I asked him to look at the pump plate and he said that stamped on the side it said Wayne "Cut 40 A" What does cut mean and which one is it in Jack's second edition book on page 325?

Alex, the Wayne "cut"/"model" 40-A are in both books. As the illustrations show, there are different versions of this model. Jack shows 3 different versions, so could be any of the 3. Or at least that is the way I read the books. You will need to take the book(s) with you to check which one the seller has.

cut does not mean they were chopped. A Wayne 70 is a cut 70. Model/number/ cut/etc.
