Just finished this tonight. All original but the electrical, hose, and some nuts and bolts. No fancy paint job on this. Just a rattle can job but it looks great and I am pretty pleased with it. [This message has been edited by keithia (edited 09-02-2006).]

Is there a trick to spray the pole and not get runs? Being round I would think this could be a problem if doing it yourself. I'm planning on painting one myself, also with a can.

Thanks for the complements. As for painting the pole, it was the hardest piece to paint. I use short blasts when spaying not long extended ones and don't stay in one area long. You can always respray a short time later.
By the way, these things are just like pumps. Once you have one you need another and if you have a pump you should have one of these.

I suggest you take the pedestal apart, paint the inside of the base, after it dries, grab the pipe that is still screwed into it, turn it over and paint the outside. Same with the flange from the top of pedestal. To paint the post, cut two pieces of 1 X 8 wood about 2" long. Cut a "V" in the top of each of these pieces. Clamp them on each side of an old table, take an old broom handle, run it down the post and set it in the "Vs." I wear an old glove and a long sleve shirt on the left, while painting with the right hand, this way I can turn the post, as I layer the paint. Never tried painting the pedestal without taking it apart, but you should be able to run a 1/2" X 4' bar down the center, then set it on these pieces of wood I described. This way you can paint the pedestal while it laying on its side. As for painting the head, I always paint the three pieces seperately. I always put the old screws in the holes to keep them from getting paint in them, and then use one of the stainless steel screw kits we sell. Keithia, That came out very nice! Great job! Would have never known it was a rattle can spray if you had not mentioned it. Hope to see you at Iowa Gas again next year.
