I have owned this Gargoyle Mobiloil sign for what seems forever. It has "tagged" along with me since the late 60s early 70s if I remember correctly. It is pressed tin, 10-3/4" dia, has 2 small mounting holes with no grommets. Either way I really like the looks of it, lol. Had someone ask about buying it and I couldn't give an answer to its originality. With a good number of experts here, thought I would ask "What you you all think"?

Looks too modern for that logo usage time frame (tin sign vs heavy metal or porcelain) and the "R" for registered seems to me wouldn't have been used. I believe there should be a red stripe the word Gargoyle as well. Just my observations. I believe this not to original.

Thanks guys. Funny I don't remember noticing the "reg trademark" before. I know (I think) I enjoyed the late 60s early 70s, just didn't know I still would be feeling the affects, lol.

...already answered, but I'm sure this is an older reproduction made for the nostalgia market...besides the 'circle R', the fonts don't match the ones used on the originals...

Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

The missing "red strip" thru "Gargoyle" is the most glaring error..........I've never seen the logo without it. Nice sign, but not an original.
