I bought an old cast iron gas pump 1906 with metal front and back panels which come off. It was used at an old mill. When horse and wagon was being used there was also a need for fuel as motorized transport was coming into the mill also. How do I replace the globe on top, all information I could find was 20's and 30's on up. Thank you for any help with this. Fred the troll

I am the author of the Gas Pump Identification book. It id's over 1900 gas pumps from 1885 to 1965. You can get a copy at my website: www.petrocollect.com

In the meantime, please find the ID tag on the pump and give us what is on it. We refer to pump first by the name of the company that made them, then the model number. It really doesn't matter who used them (Shell, Texaco, etc.) as these pumps were sold like used cars.

If your pump is really that old (and it doesn't sound like it is from 1906, possibly 1912-1920), but it is probably shown on my website. Go to the literature section, then click on the name of the company who made it.

While there were a lot of small companies making pumps at that time, the larger companies were: Bowser, Gilbert & Barker, Milwaukee, Tokheim, Wayne and Western. You can probably find a picture of it on my website.

Jack - what is the best way for customers to contact you? I've sent emails to order literature, but never heard back. You also do not accept private messages on this site.

Thank you.

Chad

I'm going out on a limb & guessing you have one of these:
1910 BOWSER 241 [2 doors that swing open & can be removed] OR
1914 AMERICAN 101 [2 doors that fold down & can be removed] or
???? CRAWFORD ? [2 doors that fold down & can be removed] or
1910 WAYNE ?? [made a couple that 1 or both doors could be removed].
There are a few others, but not as common.

Not all of the early cast iron pumps had removable doors.
