Found this item listed in an auction but advertised as Tony the Tiger. I believe it's the Esso tiger. Does anyone have any knowledge of this item? It looks to be a plastic, raised surface item that I can only imagine as a window display maybe.

I REMEMBER TONY THE TIGER BEING OF A MUCH SIMPLER CARTOON-LIKE ANIMATION. THAT DEF LOOKS LIKE THE ESSO TIGER AS I REMEMBER IT IN THE 60'S.

Def an Esso tiger. I just checked one of my posters and he looks identical to yours and Doc's.

I remember when I was a kid, the marketing was "Put a Tiger in your Tank." I also remember some gas company that had a horse that would kick each back leg and there would be a "dink" "dink" sound like the bells on the thing you drove over (cant think of what they are called). Was this Mobil? I remember it because they gave away plastic horseshoes and I just HAD to have them. Anyone else remember this or am I imagining things?

John,
I think your having Withdrawal Pains because you haven't bought enough Stuff this MONTH ! LOL

Gulf is the only one I can think of giving Horse Shoes away. Always thought they looked like Donkey Shoes instead of Horse Shoes.

Doc is correct. Two fit exactly back to back and were used on top of the pumps. There does not seem to be a way to light them but could still possibly be called a "globe"

OK, thanks guys. Now has anyone got any sense of what might be a fair value or at least what some have sold for in the past??

Dave: I don't remember what I sold mine for. But, I think they are umique and a bit "rare" (Please note the quotes) as they are fragile and got brittle with age. They were designed for a temporary promotion. If you are an Esso/Enco collector I would think a C-Note at least to get inthe game. Just my opinion.
