Thanks for the comments guys. They are deeply appreciated. I'll try to get some pics up on here of that 850 tommorrow for you Mick. Somebody did a quick resto on it a while ago,but it's going to be a Union 76 pump when I'm done. I'm hoping Bob will get my slack again with the pic thing? The Erie is going in the house along with the 4 others that are already in there. Thank goodness I have an understanding wife! John, the garage is 28x40 Kent.

I did that 850 in John Deere green a few years ago - yep, a quick resto - painted by Clint Pultony of Fordville, ND. I originally purchased the 850 from Oslosteve. After painting the pump I realized that it would not fit in my gas room with a the metal 15" body and I really didn't like how it looked with a 13-1/2" body. So, I sold the pump to a couple in Washington. I thought someplace along the line they had sold it, or are you the party that bought it Kent? Many times I wish I had kept it - overall it is a fairly decent pump. Take your time putting the bezels back on after you repaint it - they were a struggle to make sure the screws all properly aligned.

Nice Garage!

I see the visi-gage did get assembled - excellent!

Now that is so cool! I wondered what the history was on that pump when I got it. I bought it from a guy down around Lacenter,Wash. about 2 years ago. I think that is close to Bob's house in Longview. I bought some original face bezels for it because the ones that are on it I thought were repops? I had a pair of Wayne 60s to finish up first then on to that 81 and now finally I'll get to that 850. Wow,did I get a history lesson!! OK Bob,here they come. Thanks so much, Kent.

That Erie pump is awesome -- the milk glass top is so unique and looks amazing. How did you attach the ad glass in the doors? Is there rubber around the ad glass? Our pump has a sort of clip on each end of where the ad glass should go, but I can't figure out what holds it tight. We are also still looking for a top if anyone knows of one. Nice job on the pump!

Hi Chris. The ad glass slides up from the bottom and kind of rests in a grove on the lower add glass bracket. The tabs on the ends just keep the glass from moving out of that groove. You have to bend the tabs just a little at a time so you can still slide the glass into place and not be to tight to get them in place. If you put rubber around the glass in will not fit in the groove and be more likely to drop out. Be careful trial fitting the glass. I used original Richfield add glass and had it cut to fit properly. I think any glass on this style Erie pump didn't survive very well. This pump also has the original bubble glass over the face plates which didn't survive well either. Kent.

Kent,

You are correct, the bezels were repops from Ron Scobie - I also bought the attaching hardware from him. I see you still have the globe with the two different lenses. I am an indecisive person, I liked both of these lenses and they matched the pump. I thought that when I became tired of looking at one lense all I had to do was turn it around for a different view. If I do say so myself, the 850 still looks great. Also, if I remember right, OsloSteve purchased the pump in Ohio. I traded a nice Butler 61 for it and of course this pump also would not fit into my house - now I have neither frown

Little tidbit...Exxon tiger(and tail). Neighbors owned a Exxon station a while back, and were changing gas brands, so they gave me the tiger/tail. It came off the flat canopy roof over the gas pumps. The tiger bolted on up there and the tail hung over the side of the canopy. I was going to put it on my garage roof but ya needed a flat roof to make it look right. It's made of 3/4 plywood with angle iron brackets on back.

Kent. The first gas station model I did way back in 2004 was a former Richfield station from right here in Richmond Virginia . It was built in 1923 and was built in a very well to do neighborhood even by todays standards . I spent every bit of a couple of thousand on the model too. Meanwhile the one time I did show it , it was copletely shunned by the judges at a very large contest here. I was so discusted that I put it away in the attic . I probably need to set it up and post pictures of it here. I showed it as it would have looked in 1959 shortly before the first building was torn down because the overhead canopy didn't meet fire saftey codes and was considered hazardous .
See, the 10 X 10 building was built of Stucco. The matching canopy butted the face of the building and it too was of Stucco. There was a grease rack but it was next to the sales office .
The structures were replaced in 1965 and done as a rather plain Colonial Revivial with a single attached shop. In 1968, the Richfield brand was displaced by Sinclair here in Virginia . Soon that was replaced by B P . The station operated as a gasoline station well into the mid 1980's whereas , the station simply wasn't up to modern standards and it was turned into a dry cleaner drop site . Ed Shaver

I was thinking about doing a 60 in Richfield and this pretty much sealed the deal. There is a New Mexico connection,a little further along,as in Atlantic Richfield.I've got a oil well sign from Atlantic Richfield from down in the oil patch here in NM.

Also,as a point of totally irrevelant history,Atlantic Richfield issued me the first credit card I ever had.Back when I was being an auditor,I audited some of their books in Los Angeles and they issued me a card when I had ZERO credit history.Oh,I paid on time!!LOL.

Kent -- where did you get the ad glass for the Erie pump? I've looked on all the websites and whenever they have an ad glass reference chart it says most Erie pumps need 5 X 11 3/4. However after measuring the openings on our Erie 71 pump, it looks like the glass should be more like 3 1/2 X 12 1/2. Help???

Hi Chris. That add glass came out of that Wayne 70 when I put the Wayne dog ad glass in the 70. That is how I got the wide width for the Erie. Then cut some off the top and bottom of the glass to get the correct hight. Hope that helps. Kent.
