A while back, there was some discustion about the brass faces on a Wayne 40 and how to restore them or at least make them look better. I have a fairly nice set that came on my 40, but I put on a set of repops because I thought It looked better than the crusty brass ones did. I think someone on here is working on a 40 that may have an idea on how to make them more presentable so I can use the original faces instead of the repops. Kent.

Well,I don't think they were. Mine turned kind of a green color and there isn't any evidence of any kind of old plating at all. I can tell that the lettering is black tho. Kent.

Kent, I posted to Kevins' original thread on "reburbishing wayne 40 face plates" to get it back to the top of the list. I didn't know how to post a link of that thread, so brought it back to the top. Oh, that thread led to the conclusion that the brass was probably the base metal with some kind of plating over it.

Just read the post guys! My faces turned out great! I will post a picture of them and the info that you need to get them redone. I have to go out to the shop for the photos, so it may be a while. Also, they are all brass and not plated.

Kent--You can send your faces to Mill Lake Metals-28655 Cty Road 29--Long Prairie, Minnesota--56347 You can call them at 320-594-2799 and talk to Brian Standl My faces came back all shiny and polished with NO damage to the raised lettering. They were clearcoated and I had my sign painter friend do the black lettering! Shes the same one that did the lubester lids. Polishing cost about $35 and the lettering was about $50.

[quote=K W FRITH]Joe--Most of the lettering still has its color but wherever its gone, you can see that it was plated underneath.

The piece is solid brass joe--I just meant that the lettering was applied to the surface.

Well, I'm a little confused here. That pic kinda looks white or something. It doesn't look like a brass color. Is it maybe the camera flash thats making it appear that way? Kent.
