Hi! Wonder if any collectors can help me> I purchased a red /white FOMOCO dealer sign 20 years ago and may be selling it. I want to confirm that it is an original and not a reproduction? Can anyone give me some guidance ? Lettering is raised on sign; rivets look new; rust on edges on both left and right sides; no Ford copyright or other markings Thanks in advance for your help! Chris

Can you post a pic of it? Tough to definatively answer your question without one

I believe that sign is an original, I have one just like it and I know mine is real. I bought mine at the United Oil Distributor auction in Cape Girardeau, MO a few years ago, but I can't remember what I paid for it, I'm thinking it was around $20, but it is probably worth more than that. Tony

Thanks so much for your comments, Tony! Does yours have the shiny rivets in the 2 holes at the top and the FOMOCO lettering is raised from the white background as opposed to being level with the rest of the painted areas. Does your have markings or copyright date? I was once told that the raised lettering alone can distinguish an original from a reproduction but can't confirm,, Chris

The raised lettering would mean it is a porcelain sign, that,s what you would call shelving: Used to describe the effect of layering caused by successive layers of porcelain being fired one on top of another. That would mean your sign is real. And the shiny rivets, are called grommets. But not quite sure on the value. Hope this helps a little bit. Welcome to Old Gas.com
