I found a nevrnox round tin sign while metal detecting. It has orange nevrnox letters above the company name "Ethyl Gasoline Corporation" New York USA. Any info on this item would be appreciated?

NevrNox w/ ethyl sounds like a porcelain curb sign

I knew I'd seen pictures of a nevrNox sign and it wasn't a Gulf item - they had No Nox as a premium grade. Anyway, I googled it and the first reply was to a post from our very own Wes aka "Thermactor" - check it out: http://www.oldgas.com/shoptalk/ubb/Forum4/HTML/001829.htmlps look at Wes' avatar ds

Please e-mail me a picture, too. My e-mail is listed in my profile. Wes (Thermactor) is my husband and I'm sure he'd like to see it, but I don't think he's been checking Oldgas much lately. Thanks!

The globes are glass, if the sign was buried and you can still read it it is more than likely porcelain covered metal like an enameled bathtub.

Thanks for posting the link to the COTM, Claes! It sounds like it's a porcelain 30" curb sign. We'll see when we see the picture. Porcelain enamel signs would have the greatest likelihood of surviving burial, as mentioned previously, plus I've never seen a tin Nevr-Nox sign.
The New York company on the Ethyl logo (Ethyl Gasoline Corp.) made the Tetraethyl Lead antiknock additive that was used in Nevr-Nox gasoline, along with many, many other brands. This sign was owned by Mid Continent Petroleum Corp of Tulsa, as mentioned on the COTM page.
It's a nice find. Welcome to the site!
Wes

Here is the sign. In this condition it is worth $25-$50. Still a great find with a medal detector for free
