Found this yesterday and have not seen one like it before. It says in the embossed metal on the side Patened 1881, and there is a name on the bottom from Chicago. It is glass inside the metal I guess to see what the level of liqqid is. Cut can, but small. Any body know anything about this type of can?

Typically used for kersoene, they were still selling them in 1910, because most people were still using kersoene for lighting. It has a small spout for pouring kersoene into the little hole in the lamps.

I have a similiar one that i have had for 20 years.

These pop up on eBay pretty regular.
They are a really nice version of a Lamp Oil can.
