I bought a 42" Cities Service Once Always sign at Iowa Gas last summer in very nice condition except for it lacking gloss. I was just wondering if this would work to restore the gloss - place it in an oven used for powder coating. Do you think it might be hot enough to remelt the glass and rejuvenate the gloss?

Koolmotor,

Read this shop talk thread from April 05. This might be a safer solution.......

Not hot enough.. if you can get it clean and find an enamelling oven it will gloss up at abot 1100-1300 degrees..

Has anyone tried a oxegen rich rose bud? I was wondering about this and have been meaning to try this on an old contains led sign, but have not had the time. If you had the torch oxegen rich or oxidising it would be cleaner. If anyone has tried this please let us know how it panned out.
Thanks
Brandon

You would have to heat it evenly, if one end was cold it would likely crack or maybe warp.

I don't think that is a good idea [might work on a small sign]. You need to heat the whole area so that you don't have uneven expansion of the metal. Also it needs to cool evenly. Too fast and it will crack.
Controled heating & cooling.

Sorry, Dodo beat me to the punch.

Dont bother with a torch --I tried that years back and it chipped like crazy--being a bonehead and all I didnt even have glasses on and, well you know the rest of the story. Jim
