I bought these unusual Light/signs? Today.
Anyone ever seen these before? The back of one says "Patent June 15 1925" The line cords have been replaced and one has been poorly repainted showing brush marks.
Any thoughts?

...you might want to check your patent date - June 15, 1925, was a Sunday, and I could find nothing issued on that date on the US Patent Office website...that said, I did find several similar inventions when I used the date June 16, 1925, and searched for 'signal'...nothing EXACTLY the same, but not knowing what the 'guts' of these things look like, it's kinda hard to tell...you probably have more time to look anyway

After a closer look the date stamp is June 16 1925. I'll check that link, Thanks!

Kinda looks like a railroad signal of some sorts to me.

I'm at a loss, but... runway lights? I highly doubt it. The railroad light kinda' makes sense. If they were hung on a caboose, they could mark the rear of the train, and possibly illuminate the steps through the bottom, the vacuum cleaner looking thing. I think that I'm REALLY reaching here though. Another guess would be walkway markers, with a velvet rope through the loops......

Looks to me that there are some parts missing. the small holes under the light and the slots on top, I think there is more to these????They may have hooked into something on the back of a trolley or something. Who Knows???

No markings inside, Just silver paint.
They do look Railroad or Trolly style to me.
They also look like a vacuum crossed with a banjo! Here's another photo.

Cool looking lights. I have no idea what it is but my thoughts are two different lights joined together. The construction style of the round lights look very different than the style of the other lights. The round is well constructed, fully covering the light socket, and the pipe fittings would have made it hard wired and able to withstand some use. The other light is just a light socket with a cover that would not be able to withstand any amount of use. I believe if they were constructed at the same time and used together the construction of the bottom lights would be different. Just my thoughts. They make for some interesting conversation,

I dont know -just a guesse but maybe something for a backing a truck up to a dock...They kinda look army green too..Hmmm.

the Paint on the round part and the paint on the "cow catcher" peice are different colors. The light socket in Angle piece looks like a "Benjamin" socket which would be that period......My guess is that they are Genuine Monstrosities.....built by Julio Monstrosity....in 1925.

benjamin lamp socket...monstrosity was a joke ...a joke that is....

The lower visible socket is stamped benjamin. The red circular glass is marked L L CO 300. I've looked thru 400 of the 1100 patents issued for June 16, 1925. I'll report back as I go through more patents.

One note about patents I ran across....The tag on my Bowser and the actual applied pat. date is a couple of months different....same year, same day, different month.

I could use a couple of good brass or copper
BENJAMIN lamp sockets if anyone has some extras.

I am thinking something like theatre or stadium, the big round part (sofly lit)marking an aisle or section , and the cowcatcher lighting a path or doorway..
