Hello--Jumping right in---I picked this up thru an auction bid. I've got to drive down to pick it up on the 11th so I dont actually have it in my possession yet--so the million dollar question---what did I just buy??? lol

http://www.msusurplusstore.com/servlet/Detail?no=3228

Is this a 646 or 766 perhaps??

And the second question--anyone have the face skins? Or a good source for them??

I was kind of leaning towards it being a 646 thru everything I could find online but wasnt sure.

So is that good luck -good luck
Or good luck it aint gonna happen??? Are they rare?

I see the door glass frames appear the same for 600 and 700 models--would this mean they share a common door with the 600 series being taller?? If you follow my thinking--could a 700 door be added to on the bottom??

Please excuse any ignorance on my part--just trying to formulate a plan.

Hi None, 646 doors are not that rare, but harder to find than 700 series doors. The doors are the same except for hight. I found these on Craigs List a couple weeks ago.

First off....WELCOME to oldgas! grin I think he means good luck it ain't gonna happen... frown Sorry!
I would start searching now for those doors and this is definitely the right place to do so. I have two Bennett 646. One with two perfect doors and one with a OK door and one not even close to OK door! haven't had much luck finding a decent door for the later. But they are out there! A guy just has to keep looking! grin

So if the doors are the same except for the height--Is that height on the bottom?? Guess what I'm getting at is-is the area from the glass opening up the same??

This is my first foray into gas pumps but I've restored/worked on old cars for years---which of course means sheet metal repair and fab.

If the height is missing off the bottom then it would seem to be easy enough to form/weld onto the bottom. One might have to move the hinges locations as well but that is just more sheet metal work.
Again just thinking outloud here.

Thanks for the welcome and thanks for all the quick responses--I'm pretty excited about getting this pump--Always wanted one but prices/availabilty around here have kept me from owning one.

WELCOME TO OLD GAS
By adding a City, State for Location, you might be surprised to find other collectors near you.

Easy to find/buy pumps w/o doors than to find Doors w/o pumps.

Unless your 1 of the 1% of collectors, dump the pump mech. & motor [everything below the Veeder Root Drum]. Very few of us [99%] WANT pumps w/ the GUTS intact. Visibles need the pump mech. to hold handle, Unique & Rare pumps keep the guts intact, Common pumps junk the guts.

Facts, no insult intended:

The Bennett 600 series pumps are not rare, far from it, considered more a common pump.

Finding door should not be that much of a problem, just be sure you don't spend more than it would cost you to purchase another 600 Bennett just to finish yours.

I don't know what you spent for this pump, but before you purchase another find out what these pumps are worth. You may have over paid more than the cost of my Gas Pump Identification and Value Guide. Don't leave home without it.

No insult taken--- I paid 141 bucks for the pump.

I'm a Michigan State University Alum --and this pump was used on campus at the old farm-- so I'd be willing to invest more time/money into it for that reason.

Plus I'm the patron saint of lost causes--I've got a 68 Honda CB350 that I've spent 2 years and surely too much money gathering parts to restore.

Another question--anyone have a vague idea what (given its current condition) this thing will weigh??

According to the original Bennett Sales Literature I have, your pump weighed 535 lbs. including the shipping creat (not much of a box, I have pictures of the box) it was in when delivered.

This information is available in the sales literature I have available for sale on my website: www.petrocollect.com

Just go to Literature, then to Bennett, then to the model number.
