Howdy
First off y'all have a great site with a lot of neat stuff and info. A little about myself I'm married with four kids that range in age from 10 to 3 months old. I'm a full time firefighter that does leather work on my days off. I also like to pick up old stuff. Which brings me to this site. I picked up a couple of Derby gas signs. They are 48" in dia. double sided porcelain. One has derby across the star and the other has DOC on the star. My question is about how old are these and what are their worth. With my limited knowledge I rate them at about a 7. I'll try and post some pics. Thanks, Mike

Have some family friends in Newton, do you know the Claussens? Great signs, are they faded or is that just the pictures?

Nice finds for sure Red one I would say $200-$250 White one about the same maybe a little more. If they are faded or have little gloss the price will be in the lower range each for both

DOCo = DERBY OIL Co. 48"er IS MORE UNUSUAL THAN THE 6'er. THE WHITE OLDER SIGN ALSO CAME IN A BLUE VERSION AND SMALLER AS WELL. YUP....LOVE THAT DERBY! WELCOME TO OLDGAS.COM BTW!

Derby Gasoline sign is your old one, according to Guide To Gasoline Logos book DOCo dates from 1929-1949 and just the Derby sign dates from 1950-1988.

Thanks everyone for the big welcome!! I hope to start getting more gas stuff. I really want a old pump but I think I'll have to wait until the kids are growed. I plan on keeping the signs to hang on a wall. They are faded as the picture shows but I was wondering if I could buff them out with some compound or would that screw them up? I was just interested in the value as ya never know when ya gotta sell something to pay the bills.LOL powerlube Claussen is a pretty common name around here so I hear it but I don't know any of them. diesel I go by that handle on a leather forum I belong to I was doing quite a bit of braiding with rawhide and I find it easier to keep the same handle if I can or I'll forget who I am depending on the forum. s932 Howdy to a fellow brother the wifes family is from that neck of the woods Dexter to be exact. Thanks again everyone for the help, Mike

I use Mequiar's SCRATCH X 2.0 fine scratch and blemish remover, can not harm porcelain signs just cleans and shine them up. can buy it at any automotive store near you. Not affiliated with this product in any way. It just works good for me. use what you want.
