Any ideas?? What do people here use??

The best I can determine fuel was leaking out of the sight glass on either side down onto the faceplates. Other than the stains they appear to be in great shape--Anyone have any secrets they want to share?? Soft Scrub? Ajax? Fresh gas? Buy new ones?? I hate to do that as they really do look nice.

You preclean with anything? Some of its comes off with just water. You use the buffing to cut it off basically??

I do not pre clean with anything. I just use a rag and hand buff then wax with car wax when done buffing. I assume we are talking about porcelain faceplates?

are you talking about porcelain? If so, try barkeepers friend and 0000 steel wool. You can also try Simple Green and 0000 steel wool.

Sorry--yes I'm talking about the faceplates on a 646 Bennett. I'll try those approaches.

I agree with the automotivie compound , You can use fine grit all the way up to corse. Just keep buffing until it takes it off or until you are afraid you are taking the finish off.
