THIS JUST IN: A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO I WAS TALKING WITH THE OWNERS OF A NEW RECLAIMED FURNITURE & ANTIQUE SHOP A STONES THROW FROM MY HOUSE. IT'S CALLED "IN THE ATTIC TOO." THEY WERE MENTIONING A RUMOR THAT THE OWNER'S OF THE RESTAURANT NEXT DOOR HAD FOUND AN OLD TEXACO GLASS GLOBE IN THE ATTIC OF THE RESTAURANT RECENTLY. CLIFF'S "ELBOW TOO" (A SPIN OFF OF THE FAMOUS ORIGINAL ELBOW ROOM STEAK HOUSE NEXT TOWN OVER) HAS BEEN IN CLIFF'S FAMILY SINCE THE 1940'S AND A STEAK PLACE I GUESS SINCE THE 1960'S.

IN THE ATTIC TOO:

AND CLIFF'S ELBOW TOO:

NOT KNOWING HOW MUCH TRUTH THERE WAS TO THE STORY, I PASSED THE RUMOR ON TO A LOCAL GLOBE COLLECTING FRIEND OF MINE SINCE HE KNOWS CLIFF PERSONALLY TO SEE WHAT HE COULD SCRATCH UP.....THAT WAS A WEEK AGO.

TODAY PAUL (THE FRIEND) COMES BY MY PLACE ALL SMILES HAPPY AS A LARK!
LOL! HE SAYS "I GOT SOMETHING TO SHOW YOU!" HE OPENS THE BACK OF HIS SUV AND PULLS OUT THIS OLD CRISPY CARDBOARD BOX THAT SAYS THE CINCINNATI ADVERTISING PRODUCTS CO ON IT. THEN PROCEEDS TO TAKE OUT THIS DIRTY BUT AWESOME OLD TEXACO ONE PIECE EHTYL GLOBE!

WITH A GENUINE LOCAL ADDRESS ON THE BOX!

ENDS OF THE BOX...

AND A COOL DATE STAMP INSIDE THE NECK OF THE GLOBE...

NOW, I WOULD ASSUME THAT EVEN THOUGH THE GLOBE WAS USED AND SHOWS SOME WEAR AND HASN'T BEEN CLEANED UP YET, THAT IT'S PRETTY RARE?

BUT IT JUST GOES TO SHOW YOU WHAT WHO YOU KNOW WILL DO FOR YOU...
I ASKED PAUL HOW MUCH HE HAD TO GIVE FOR IT....THINKING THE BIGGER PORTION OF AT LEAST 3-FIGURES. HIS ANSWER WAS PRICELESS...

"FREE!"

GOTTA LOVE IT!

CLIFF TOLD HIM THAT ABOUT A MONTH AGO THE RESTAURANT NEEDED SOME ELECTRICAL WORK DONE WHICH INVOLVED ACCESSING THE ATTIC BY A LIC ELECTRICIAN. THE ELEC SAW THE BOX AND WHAT WAS IN IT AND BROUGHT IT DOWN TO CLIFF...SO THAT'S HOW IT WAS FOUND. AMAZING HUH!??

ANYONE WANNA GUESSTIMATE A VALUE ON IT? PLEASE POST IT HERE!

THANKS!

Wow, that is freaking awesome. I hope to have a story like that someday... I found my Fuel Chief sign and got it cheap by dumb luck, but it was an "in the wild" find like that.

Just goes to show that this stuff is still out there. Good looking globe and great story.
Isn't it proper etiquette, if you get something for free you have to give something for free? Ha ha
