Hi All-

2nd post in a week - look out.

I noticed after bringing home my second script top that the A is different.

Any thoughts on this? Was one done by one manufacturer and one by the other?

Thanks

Jay

Thanks-

Jay

Some of the Mobil Pump Plates (Signs) have these same variations of the letter "A" also...

I believe on close inspection you will find other differences.I had the same top several years ago and the corners of the letters are more square than round best I remember. Thanks for the post.

IMHO, it has to do with age. The open "a" is the older.
On the large Mobilgas signs the open "a" is on the pre-WWII signs. Pump plates in the shield form wasn't available before WWII, and some early west coast and MC-AX plates can be seen with open "a", but not on the I.R. signs.

In magazine advertizing after WWII, the open "a" is used only during the 40s, and even then, mixed in with some cloesd a's.

Maybe the age can be verified by serial number on the pump, but of course, the top may have been exchanged over time?

Claes

They do not make repop inserts for your pump on the right so use caution when you take them out. Richard
