I have this thermometer from an old store that used to be in town and wondered about Mobil paint? When did Mobil make paint and quit making paint? Also does anyone have any Mobil paint items? Thanks! Brian

Hey Brian, According to one of the cans in my collection, Socony paints division started in 1872. Obviously this date is well before the Socony-Vacuum/Mobil days and must hail from the early days of Standard Oil Company's production of paints. I am unsure how long they made paints, or if in some capacity Exxon-Mobil still might (?), but the latest can I have is an aerosol version from the early 1960's, with the flat shield logo that was phased out in 1965. (like the logo on your thermometer.) I will post a photo later today when I get home from work of the few paint items I have in my Mobil collection. Darin

I saw Mobil gallons at a resycling center, they wouldn't give them to me because they were full, probably with lead paint.

Here are the few Mobil paint items I have in my collection. The two cans are from the 50's, the aerosol from the 60's. I'm sure every station used the paint for exterior touch ups at one time or another. All the cans I've seen look to be made for industrial use. The wet paint sign was a pretty neat find. Like I've said before, I like paper items a lot. This cardboard sign should have been pitched 50 years ago! Take care, Darin Uploaded with ImageShack.us
