Hi, Gang. I've got one of those large, tall Standard Oil porcelain thermometers. I have reproduced the wooden frame for it (the original frame was mostly shot).

Does anyone know if this wood frame was originally painted flat black, semi-gloss black, or gloss black? I'm sure these thermometer frames suffered weathering almost immediately....but I thought someone on the list might have already researched what "sheen" these frames started out with. Thanks for any input. John

I have seen old frames painted white ,black and red, I think what ever color the station had of piaint they used. I painted mine a semi gloss black and I think they look just fine.

I believe they were flat black.
