This Past Weekend I was at a old Farm Place that a Friend of mine told me about and Found this cool 1 Gallon Bull Dog Oil Can. I don't really watch prices on 1 Gallon cans as I allways Chase the Quart Size Oil Cans. So My Questions are what was the Time Frame when this style of Can was used? It is a little rough but would also like to get a Idea of Value. And at the Bottom of the Can it says " The Climax-Western Oil Company Minneapolis" and was wondering if this had any affiliation with the Western Oil Co. that Produced Husky Oil?

Thanks for the Help... smile

Jason, the logo sure has striking resemblance of the Freedom bulldog that you're familiar with. Looks like 20's to 30's can to me, but I'm just guessing.

Jason, I've never seen one either. Based on it's lack of subject matter and interest, I will take off your hands for say..... $12.50 and you pay the freight to my front door. wink

Really how can you pass up such a "special deal"? grin

A great looking can!

I found a Little Info on this Company....

Climax-Western Oil Company
Minneapolis, Minnesota

In 1901, Edgar M. Dyer formed the Western Oil Company. Later, this company was merged with the Climax Refining Company to for the Climax-Western Oil Company. Their main office was in Minneapolis.

Brand names: Bulldog

I think the can would be worth a good bit to someone who collects 1 gallon flat cans. I have never seen one either. 200-300 maybe? Cool find. If you have the pink globe book, there is a "Bull-dog pep" globe in the independents section on a metal body. I am assuming a real early piece. Hope that helps a little.

That is one fantastic can! I too would love to buy it!! I have some more information on the company at home. I'll update you on it later. Off the top of my head, I believe there were two companies (Climax and Western, which merged to form Climax Western).

Throw it in the Iowa Gas auction...my guess is that it will fetch 500-750 there, depending on the condition of the backside.....mm
