I need a little help - I went and looked at a Fry pump today, the bottom half is Fry and the top cylinder area is not. The ID tag is stamped model 17 yet the cylinder is 10 gallons.

Any idea's what it is and what it might be worth

Thanks

Paint looks old and matching. Maybe it has the base plate adapter to convert to a 10 gallon. I would pay 1200 if it had the glass, all other pieces and I could drive and get it.

Can't see the very top, but it might be a ten gallon Rush conversion...there are quite a few of those around.

Rush converted a number of these to ten gallons but that is not the right top.

I think WAYNE also did a few conversions w/ the FRY's after the company was sold. Looks like a 615 jar lid & bonnet.
I would convert it back to a FRY 17 5 gal.

I learn something every day on this site! I had no idea that there was ever a Wayne conversion for the Fry pumps but that is sure a Wayne jar lid and top on it! The markers are even Wayne but I wonder how they did the jar bottom on it? There must have been a custom plate that bolted to the fry pump and had the attachments for the markers and was drilled to match the Wayne jar lid?-----KEVIN

Here's a couple of more where it attaches to the top of the body.

I still need a ballpark estimate on it's worth if anybody can help.
What you see is all that is there.

Thanks

As I have said many times, my Gas Pump ID book is treated like a Playboy, you go to the pictures first.

In the front of the book I wrote a short history of Guarantee, and stated that sometime around 1927 they sold out to the Wayne Pump Co. Wayne kept the plant going for a period of time (unknown how long). The Fry location is listed on Wayne ads and sales material in the late 20s. I would assume they continued to make the 17-117-177s until they closed the plant. They may even have made changes in the design incorporating the Wayne top, who knows.
It is also believed they made the Wayne 78 & 83 (formerly Boyle-Dayton pumps) at the Fry plant.
You may just have another version of the Fry 17.

Jack did advertise that he was writing a 2nd book on pumps & asked for pictures of pumps that were not in 1st book. Quite a few pumps missed the 2nd edition.
