CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT MIGHT BE UNDER ALL THESE LAYERS OF PAINT? THE OWNER DOSE NOT KNOW,AND HAS HAD THE BUILDING FOR EVER IT SEEMS,BUT DID SAY THAT WHEN HE PURCHASED IN 68' THE SIGN WAS ALREADY THERE???? ANYWAYS I HAVE A CHANCE TO BUY THE WHOLE SIGN,I GOT UP ON THE LATTER AND.....................DEF PORCELAIN SIGN, METAL FRAME,BUT I JUST DO NOT KNOW WHAT IT IS???? IS IT GAS?? THE SHAPE IS ODD, 1ST GLANCE I THOUGHT MABE CONOCO ...........NAWWWWW I DUNNO HELP ON THIS ONE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED !

ALL THE CONOCO SIGNS IVE SEEN ARE LIKE THIS PHOTO ,SMALLER OR LARGER BUT PRETTY MUCH THE SAME! THE GUY WILL NOT LET ME TAKE PAINT THINNER TO THE SIGN TO FIND OUT WHAT BRAND! LOL IT DID NT HURT TO ASK!LOL

Good God man!--Its a nice pole and the sign is bound to be in great shape! Take a chance and buy it! I wanna see whats underneath the paint! I would buy it! You've probably gambled more on less of a chance!

If it is well price I would agree, you should just buy it...Would be fun to remove the layers of paint.

agree,if you can get it for a good price,get it!def an old sign,and i thought conoco also.

IF it's really old, maybe its a MARLAND OILS sign. Just buy it and that will solve the mystery. The suspense is killing me!!! Keep us posted! grin

Look at your YMCA picture (I got it from your post in Non-petro discussion and showcase). If you took the triangle and moved it down, it would be a dead ringer for the sign in question.

I am guessing it is a Conoco, and at some point somebody squared off the top of the sign to make a better "field" to advertise their business
