I bought this nice Bennett 541 last weekend and decided to clean it up. I used some concentrated degreaser, brush paited the base, rebuilt the lighting and put on a NOS 50+ year old decal on it (the decal was a pain in the a$$ and surprised I got it on). Now the question, did I ruin it. Did it look better dirty and faded or clean and brightened up? I can not put the years of dirt back on.

Looks great Matt!! It's amazing what a little elbow grease and a dab of red paint will do.

One more question. Should I leave the faded original Bennett drive safely ad glass or put Slama`s red backround Shell Premium ad glass?

The pump looked great before, you just "enhanced it" a little.

cany beat that, an original paint pump. would never restore another pump if all of them had that nice of orig paint. i have about 10 with nice original paint (not as nice as yours) that i cannot bring myself to restore. i do the same as you shine them up and put original signs, or whatever u have to improve them & call them restored. chris

Looks great! You made it better by cleaning it up. It's well enough to display as is. I'm doing a similar thing to my National that I just picked up. Look for it in a new post that I'll start.

OH MAN, absolutely ruined it! Now just send that poor pump to me and as dirty as my shop is it will have the dirt back on it in no time. Make sure you keep those drive safely glasses on it too.
