I have a 5 gallon oil can used to deliver motor oil to ESSO service stations in Pennsylvania the 1930's. It was manufactured by THE DAVIS WELDING & MFG. CO. There is more info on the can including dates and a serial number. The finish is totally rusted away. Can anyone tell me how it may have been originally finished? Galvanized? Painted? Color? Should I repaint it if it was originally painted?

Try having it glass beaded and clear coated. That is a pretty good look.
