Hey Guys & Gals,

It's time to share the petro relics that we've stumbled across in our recent travels, and check out what other people have found as well.

If you would like to contribute to this feature, simply post the pictures here or email them directly to me and I will post them for you. Be sure to include a story or description with your submissions.

If it's too close to the next installment, please note that I may hold your contribution for posting when the new FATW comes up.
Send 'em in!!

Happy Trails!

Unfortunately, my computer crashed this morning. It doesn't look to be salvageable, so I've put in an order for a new one tonight. All of my FATW pictures should be safe, because they were on a separate hard drive in the old computer. So, once the new computer gets here, I'll install that hard drive and post this month's pictures that I've taken.

In the mean time, I hope you guys can help me out by posting your pictures to get the thread going!

Thanks a bunch!
Wes

Urbana,OH

Hard to believe that is part of the orginal building.

Sorry for the bad picture. They were thumb tacked inside the office. It was Gulf and then a Shell station back in the day!!

I'm thinking maybe a Paragon Refining Station before Gulf!!

Great pictures, guys!

I love the now/then pictures of the Nash dealer and station.

My new computer should be here and running by the weekend, so I'll have some pictures to post at that time.

Keep 'em coming!

Hey Old Iron...Here is the email I got the son of the orginal owner.

I think he made a mistake on the Sinclair...the globe on the pump is Sunoco. I forgot to include this with the pictures.

Hello Randy
At one time there was 3 gas stations in Okolona
My father opened his I believe in 1932 and operated as gas station, auto repair,
and body shop until about 1954-55. He then started machining & welding.
Dad passed away in 1971, then I bought the shop.
The only gas I remember him selling was Citi Service and Sinclair.
I'm sure one station sold Shell, not sure what the other sold.
Hope this helps you.

Randy, thanks for the "before and after" photos of the station. I'm almost always wondering what the "restored" station looked like in it's "hey day".

Finally! New computer is built, and up and running. I put my document storage hard drive from my old computer in it, too, so I have all of my FATW pictures back.

Let's start with a Diamond station that we ran across in IL. It's quite well preserved considering its ca. 1930 vintage.

The back has been added onto:

And a couple bays were added too. This type of station originally came with just an outdoor lube rack or pit.

The pump island's anchors and paint outlines tell the story of several pumps; square, rectangle, and round.

Here's what looks to be an old Sinclair by the canopy style, but the tile isn't the right color so I'm not sure. That's Tara parked in front of it, of course!

Nothing too special, bu I really like the bat-wing island lights.

This former Western Auto is still in business. The place has been in the family for well over 100 years. Part of the building was a livery and a car shop/dealer.

Neat old Marathon tanker. Looks to have been put out to pasture.

Hy-Flash, I thought that stone station on 33 in VA was pretty cool too. I put a pic of it on the Aug. thread. Glad you got a pic of the other one! We were on our way to/from Massanutten. There are a few on that route that I need to get next time.

I was deleting some photos off my camera and ran across these; they are all from a recent business trip to Alabama.

The Sinclair station looked like it hadn’t sold gas for quite a while, there was no island or driveway, just grass. Now it’s just a produce stand, I stopped and talked to the lady at the stand the sign wasn’t for sale. It always nice to know stuff is still out there.

This building was in down town Birmingham, it used to be an auto parts supply company. The building has been recently restored to office space for a local architectural design company. When the building was restored they re made the signs that were on it in the 40’s. These signs are new, made from vinyl graphics.

Here is a couple more stations from Okolona,Ohio

This bulk plant just got sold. Looked in the window and I could see a 1970's pump inside. No signs, cans that I could see.

I missed this station on my last trip to Okolona.

Still trying to figure out where the Hi-Speed and Paragon were at in town. After talking to a few people in town I know where the Shell, Sinclair, Sohio were at

Ridgeville Corners, Ohio on RT 6. RT 6 was major truck route going east and west back in the day.

I'm thinking this might have been a Hi-Speed station. There was one listed in this town. I was told it might have been a Pure station the late 1950's...Alot of Hi-Speeds were rebranded Pure in 1953-54.

Seen this orIginal cast iron railroad sign today!!! It's in a rough section of Wilmington, De. I bet 5000 cars drive by this everyday and no one pays any attention to. It's got some damage, but pretty cool to see it still standing duty for almost a century
