How do the door latches on a National A38 work? I can move the lever a small amount but the actual latches will not move doing this. They are loose however and are spring loaded yet. Just will not move with the lever. I have had three of these now and all three did the same thing.

If you haven't taken one apart, you probably should to find the problem.
Lay one out and using it as a guide disassemble one and clean it, paint it, whatever you need to do. Check the springs and the holes in each piece. [are these supposed to be square holes?].Then put it back together.
I did a A-38 once that someone put the latches on the wrong side of the panel!
