It is a Hale Guard... These were put on pumps to protect the glass cylinder.

Thanks, I gather it was just something they cut to size and installed. I know I won't use it, wondering if anyone would ever want to use it?

Welcome aboard. That Good Gulf Colors will look great on your new pump.

Just an update, managed to get all the bolts out... never had to remove that many square headed bolts before, and very rusted. Question, where the two halves of skin meet on each side of the body, were the original bolts threaded into the blocks welded inside, or did they in fact use a nut on the inside.

Found some damage that well I can repair somewhat but won't affect the final visual product, but the original pump handle area was broken off the pump unit (pieces are missing, but I'll just make a stationary bracket) and the threads for the upper section of the pump were snapped off the pump area. Since its cast I plan to JB weld that area back together when I reinstall the skin, just to hold things together and keep stuff out. Skins are off and headed to the body shop. Bottom inch of the non-access panel part of the skin was totally rusted off, Richard helped me out (THANK YOU!!) with the arrow select panel and the upper access panel, so as soon as the body shop is done with the major work and primer I'll get it all back and test fit before final paint prep. Hoping to have from bottom of the glass done this fall, finish the rest over the winter in time to install this spring.

In Calif & other parts of the country they were known & used as Rock Guards as most all roads then were Gravel, Very few were paved.

Mostly reassembled base. Camera has the colors a bit wrong, its not burnt orange, but is overcast outside and the camera doesn't like it.
