I have seen 100's of pictures of the outsides of the old stations but hardly ever see the inside. The hayday of the traditional station was dieing out as I was growing up in the 1970's so I didn't get to see much of it in operation. I'd like to see how they were set up and such.
Got Socony???

It doesn't matter to me the time frame of the pics. I just meant the stations were mostly being changed to convienence stores by the mid 70's & later so I missed the stations as service stations.

To find photos your best bet is to look through some of the "service station" books. Such as; "The American Gas Station" by Michael Witzel. "Gas Stations: Coast to Coast" also by Mr. Witzel. "A Tour with Texaco" by Rick Pease. "Phillips 66 1945-1954" by M. Kirn. "American Service Stations: 1935-1943 Photo Archive" also by M. Kirn.... Also "Service Stations: Vol 1- American Gas Stations, 1922-1964"
All of these books, plus more that I have... have interior photo shots. Some are more detailed than others because of distance, some shot through the windows and some closer photos.

Getting pictures of the insides of old gas stations is tuff. I have asked when finding pictures of old stations for "now and then" shots for "Found Along The Way" All I have ever found was outside pictures of the stations. I have asked before but with no luck for the inside. Randy

Not an average gas station interior. To see a detailed version of the photo click here: HI-RES PICTURE Washington, D.C. "Seaton Garage and Supply House, interior. 1919 or 1920."
