I saw the clip for American Restoration and it looks like a cool show. I love the pickers show and hope this is as good as that and besides what else is there to do on a Monday night. Good or bad the ol swith-a-roo on the Vendo 39 worked. The producers intended for people to talk about it and that's exactly what people are doing this many months later...talking about it. I was at Rick's place in Vegas 14 years ago and he had some of the most incredible restorations I had ever seen. Welcome to oldgas Rick.

At first I just thought that the Pawn Stars guys brought in a 39 and then that Rick guy said here ya go. A little switch-a-roo for TV sakes is almost expected (unfortunately). But the way he went into great detail about how he resurrected the old frame and put all that neat stuff on that "39" frame was a blatant lie, if not fraud. If you’re that good, then why lie? I could not agree more. You've said pretty much exactly what I was going to after finally watching the episode. Wes

Andy Griffith is one of the coolest, best shows ever filmed and aired, and "restoration" of old artifacts is TOTALLY OVER-RATED and mindless in many cases.

what else is there to do on a Monday night ...watch football...or, spend time with your family, regrout the bathroom tile, sleep - just about anything would be a more worthwhile way to spend your time... The producers intended for people to talk about it and that's exactly what people are doing this many months later...talking about it. ...or - more likely - the producers were too lazy to do it correctly, and they figured most of the people watching were too obtuse to figure it out... Ok all of you guys go back and watch Andy and Barney I will stick with the new shows looks like a great show maybe some of you could learn something new. ...wow, that's clever...maybe you should watch 'Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?' - maybe you could learn something new...

...no, I don't think you do...cute emoticon, by the way...
...the thing I find so hard to comprehend about this debate: most (if not all) Oldgas participants get annoyed when someone tries to pass a fake sign off as the real deal...even angrier if they get ripped off, buying what they were told was authentic...
...yet, here's a fake 'restoration' passed off as the Real Thing, and some of you act like that's to be expected...or worse - you clap your hands and cheer for more when you learn the guy who looked at the camera and lied gets rewarded for his deceit, with his own show...

Let me just say Welcome to the forum, Ricksgirl. Seems that good manners have been forgotten in favor of random comments. I'll watch this new show. The rest of you will as well, but you might not admit it. Guys, you need to "lighten up". Hey, I watch Swamploggers.....but am having a real hard time digesting "Swamp People". As always, it's what makes the world go round! Good luck with the show, just keep it honest, if at all possible. Paul www.severngaspumps.com

I can't watch pickers, just because those guys make me want to open hand slap them in the mouth. I'm sure they are decent enough, but when they use terms like "Freestyle Picking" and "I'll Pop On That For $100", it's like fingernails on a chalk board. Then, they always gotta "call a buddy of ours who knows more about this than we do". They seem like guys who are more shabby-chic interior decorators with enough knowledge of petroliana & automobilia & classic cars to just get by. I mean when I think of "Pickers", I don't think of two guys driving around in a Sprinter who may or may not like girls! I think of guys in a 1983 Chevy Long-Bed who smell to high heaven, that stop off at my shop on the way to the scrap-yard. I did hear that on one episode they tried to buy a visible for like $600 and the owner said "I called that GUY in Oklahoma and he said the cylinder was worth that alone". Now, maybe it's just ego cause there are plenty of other guys in OK, but I used to get 5-6 phone calls a day from people who needed help pricing something because someone was trying to buy it from them and they didn't want to leave money on the table. So, I like to think I screwed Mike & Frank a little bit there. Now, Danielle on the other hand...
I talked to Rick a few times when I had Vic's and he always like to tell me about the good old days when he was cranking out 15 coke machines a week for the casinos, and how he had a restoration assembly line with a bunch of employees.
As far as Pawn Stars, I like to watch it with my kids just for the shock value of some of the OBVIOUSLY PRE-ARRANGED customer encounters. My daughter always laughs at how Rick always has a "buddy" that needs to come authenticate. She especially likes the guy from the Clark County Museum because of his goofy hat and Dana the Early American Auction guy with the bad hair piece. Plus we love Vegas and Chumley & Corey are just such fat buffoons that it is entertaining.
