My brother is restoring a 1924 Fry visible pump. Can anyone tell me what gasoline companies were in business then so we can buy the appropriate globe and decals? thanks.

Get the pump restoration book. It lists the dates and color schmes and correct period pumpplates/decals for that period. Pretty much all of the major oil compnaies were going..Texaco, Mobil, Conoco, Gulf, etc. Plus many independent companies that make for great pumps.

If I were to list all the companies that were in business in 1924 I would be up till the sun came up, just typing all the names. Probably over 500 of them when you consider all the small companies, and that is only about 11 per state, considering we only had 48 states then.

Follow the advice above, or restore the pump to any brand you like, there are no pump police out there to tell you are wrong.

Buster welcome. I see you don't have your home state listed in your profile. Are you and your brother looking for Oil Companies that operated in your home state or ???

The book the guys are talking about is entitled: PCM's Guide to Gas Pump Restoration.

If you are interested in the book, click on "Bookstore" in the header above. You will see a image of the book, it is the second book in the top row.

It is next to another "must have book", if you and/or your brother plan to or are thinking of getting more pumps.

"An Illustrated Guide to Gas Pumps" by Jack Sim.
