just saw some on ebay,and i have a few myself/cant say i ever saw them in use though?anybody know where and around when they were in use? sorry,mine are buried so i dont have a pic

mine is rectangle but the wording is arched to match the ad glass top

Mick, you see the difference in the "a's". IMHO, the red is pre WWII, or just after the war. The transparent one is newer, 50s to early 60s.
Only thing I know kept the open a are the globes. They had tha open a all the way to 1962 where the new logotype (flat shield) became standard and they went to Premium and Regular.
