Has anyone ever completely disassembled a pump (unrestored) in order to ship it cross country?

or

If you were advertising an unrestored pump on-line and someone made the request, would you have any issue with the request?

I'm starting the search for my next pump and every time I find one that is reasonably priced, they're 1,000 miles away. So once you add $300-$500 for shipping, they are out of my price range.

Just curious what the communities feelings would be.

1st..Disassembling a pump will not save Anything on shipping, just more boxes to lose or get damaged & more in shipping cost.
2nd...for your consideration would be knowing where all the parts fit, IF you received them.

Well said Dick, it would be like putting a jig saw puzzle together without the picture on the box top. I would not buy a disassembled pump unless it was for parts or a VERY rare pump at a GREAT price. There are a lot of collectors and gas pumps in Nebraska, Iowa. Post the type of pump and or pumps you are looking and I'm sure someone in your area will have one.

Whereabouts are you in Nebraska. If close to Pine Bluffs WY go over and see or call Kerry O'Dean (307-2453541). Last time I went by his place on old highway 30 there was probably 100 to 150 old pumps sitting there. Mitch

I agree, go see Kerry. Been there many times, one of the highlights on my trip to I.G. over the years.

*Attend as many farm auctions as you can, carry a Nozzle or qt can as you walk around a swap meet to get vendors attention of what your looking for.
*Leave a card w/ phone # @ antique shops.
*Talk to local bulk dealer/drivers & let them know your looking for old pumps & stuff.
*Post a sign @ feed stores, run an ad in farm mags/paper.
*Always ask @ yard sales.
*Cruise the back roads & go slow when passing a farm [stop & ask for directions-even if ya ain't lost, it breaks the tension].
*Talk to local scrappers & dealers.
*Talk to local welding guys.
*Talk to equipment dealers & trash haulers.
The stuff is still out there.

IF I go to I.G. again this year, I'll try to make contact as your on my way to or from.

Ryan,
My quote of $500 was from Yellow Freight and $300 was from Pilot Freight Company.

Try www.unishippers.com There is a link there to get a phone number for your local unishippers jobber. They will give you a quote from many different shippers, as they are a logistics company. I would say 50% of the time it is YRC (yellow/roadway) but there is always somebody that is cheap. The most expensive pumps I shipped were up towards Maine (I guess not many options for trucking up there). I just shipped another last week to Oklahoma for around the 150 dollar mark as well.

Maybe i chose the wrong class for my quote. I think I chose 200 which I thought included things like auto body parts.

Rick, When I worked up there the pronunciation of Matteson was split about evenly between Mat-sun, and Maddison. And Chicago is pronounced Chicaga.
Wisconsin natives pronounce it Wi-SCON-sin while the rest of the country pronounces it WIS-con-sin.

Wanted: Gas pump globes:Sinclair & affiliates, IL companies. Ripple bodies. Anything Sinclair, Stoll, Pierce, 4 Bros.

Lets not forget Washington and Oregon. There is NO "R" in Washington... it is not War-shing-ton.

Oregon is Or-E-gun, not Or-E-Gon. LOL

Like all places that have Indian names I won't go into how to pronounce them. Hell, I have lived here a good portion of my life and still can't pronounce the name of some of the communities and rivers in Western Washington. LOL

First of all. FORGET SHIPPING. Road trip it!

1) Ya' get outside
2) Ya' see LOTS of stuff. It took us (DB & me) forever to get to IG, but it was worth EVERY minute. We stopped at antique stores, old buildings, and Kerry O'Deans.
3) Ya' meet people.
4) Lots of photo ops for FATW.

A few bux for gas, a day on the road, and lots of memories...

Go to Odean's in Pine Bluffs for sure and see what he has. He doesn't give it away but he is usually fair especially if you add in shipping costs. And he is a helluva a nice guy!
According to Websters Dicks name is pronounced (dik) possibly a "nickname for Richard" but there are other definitions. LOL! But he is also a helluva nice guy...usually...

You know my name is in the phone book when you come through Cheyenne. Chris where's those papers you were going to deliver. I don't have much but always happy to show it off. Dick your right I have been through Carney (though I hadn't thought it that way) many times. Thunder since your company picks up the trash at the assitted living home in Elizabeth where my lady lives, we went out on Thunder Lane looking for you one evening after dinner. Didn't see any trash trucks so figured you didn't live there. Mitch
