What do you sign collectors make of this sign? Real???
As a Marathon Collector I see several things wrong with it.

The Runner design violates Trademark.
The HON looks squeezed.
The Runner is always lighter than the background except where it is lighted from behind.

One thought I have is the signs were made and rejected by the company. Why they are NOS and found together.

I couldn't find this sign in any of the Marathon Station photos I have, but that doesn't mean it wasn't localized.

I've seen a red runner on white background but never with the blue outline.
The spacing does look compressed at the end of Marathon.
The "O" doesn't look right.
The spacing between the letters in "Penn" is not uniform.

Here's a picture of an older Marathon sign with a red running man.

Its easy to tell now that there is another sign with the logo to compare it to. Terrible job on the artwork (although probably better than I could do, LOL)

Many times Marathon used different color combos with the Marathon Penn stuff than what you normally see on the other Marathon items...so the runner having different colors with it doesn't bother me a bit. I've got an old Marathon Penn can with a blue runner on it.

Chuck, you are right about the font spacing...they were running out of room and squeezed the rest of the word in.

In regards to the "o" looking different..that's something I've seen on a lot of Marathon stuff.

Overall..my guess is fantasy piece. Primarily because it is so crudely done.

Look at the O in the sign Lastgas posted..then compare it to the H right beside it. Marathon IMO jacked the O up a lot in their advertising. That's what I meant earlier, you can't go by how distorted the O looks on their stuff.

Nope, its all porcelain. I've seen a Linco sign that matched it.

I have seen the Linco version.
There was a lighted version of the one you posted also.
The round part was glass.

Chuck, I think the one with the glass insert was a much larger sign than the one I posted.
