If you were going to convert a pump to a DVD storage area, is there one that pops right to mind? Something not expensive or rare and is hinged to withstand opening and closing all the time? Thanks for your opinions!

A Wayne 60 with the hinged doors! I've seen one done and they make a real attractive storage cabinet!

A wayne 60 is definetely on my want list, but probably not going to find a "cheap" one! I like the 80 idea, should be do-able.

Use the 60, it will store 2X as many & take up the same floor space.

The nice thing about the M&S 80 is that you can open and close the doors easily with out scratching the paint...... Well to some extent anyways.

A Smithway L-1 would make a great cabinet. The bezel around the site glass is the latch that opens and closes the door and it is right in front. Brady

Are the 60's normally hinged? I've never looked at one close, maybe waiting for mine to come along would be the best bet!?

60's were either hinged or had the little twist keys on the fixed doors. I'm pretty sure that most of the frames had provisions for the hinges and the hinged type doors are reproduced, so it would be easy to convert one. Keep shopping, a reasonable one could come along any day!

I'd build one out of MDF, so then you will never feel sorry for cutting up an original pump. M&S 70s and Tok. 36Bs are easy to build wink or you could even design your own pump.

Dave,
Here's a couple I did. The Wayne 60 was missing a hinge type door so I replaced it with a wood frame door with glass that I made from some scraps I had. I did the same with the A38 because the bottom part of one door was really damaged. I also did a Gilbarco by just using the top part of the door, just added shelves and left it open.
Hope this helps.

That's why I was wondering what pumps were hinged and could withstand being opened and closed all the time. It wouldn't bother me to put shelves in where the guts usually sit as I think most people remove the innards anyway?

Thanks, John for the kind words. LOL!! I'm sure I could have used more filler, as I didn't use any. It really was in bad shape when I bought it... cheap. Because I love a challenge, I saw that I could maybe salvage it. I'm sure I could have sold the globe holder alone, junked the rest and come out ahead. Kind of looked like it got ran over by a truck and some one threw it in a lake for twenty years after some jr. high brats threw rocks at the face plates and the Veeder Root. It was so bad I really didn't think it would ever be good enough to restore it to any gas/oil company. I'm not a body man and couldn't afford to hire one. I got tired of working on it and told my wife who collects COKE she could have it for her Coke stuff. She was pleased and ended up as the first of 8 pumps we have in our house. Believe me, there are some high dollar A38s out there but this wasn't one of them. I think it has character and if pumps could talk it might say, "Thanks! I needed that". Far from perfect but I got some satisfaction from my efforts which I think this hobby is all about.
Just my 2 cents.

Rod--Excellent use of a very poor salvage pump. I would have parted it out! Man, that was a lot of work but at least you got the first pump into the house! I have yet to get that far! LOL

Thanks for the kind words, Kevin. I think it was my third pump I did. As I look back I probably should have waited until I could have afforded more body work. I didn't realize the A38s were going to be that hard to come by, in my area anyway.
