A few years ago I came up with the top section only to this 600. I've slowly been making progress with making parts, finding parts and having parts re-cast. It's just about ready to get serious with some paint after a couple of more things. I hope I can do a better job of adding pictures then I did last thread.

Ron Scobie re-cast the base for me from one of my other 600's and he supplied the pump handle and drain-back assembly, the pump came from a fellow Oldgasser(It took about 6 months of soaking in Aero-Kroil to get it freed up!), A local welder repaired the alignment/strength bracket and a local machine shop made the extensions that the pump mechanism sits on. Walt Feiger supplied me with the new skins for it that you can see in the background. So- Like somebody once said, don't crush, 'em restore 'em!!

Dave you are to be commended! Looks good. I have a 600 as well. My favorite pump. Can't wait to see yours done.

Dayton 600s are cool. I would rather have one of them than a Roman.

Looks good, I used a set of skins from Walt on mine and they turned out great.

Thanks, Phil

A little more progress today on the 600. Fitting the skins takes a little while, but the extra effort up front should pay dividends down the road. I hope to be able to get all 3 of the pumps ready to paint at the same time. I think I'm going to paint them in some kind of a Gilmore scheme, but it's still evolving.

It took me quite a while to work up the nerve to cut the pump handle and drainback holes into them. Measure twice(More like 10 times!) and cut once!

Tom- No, I didn't make the skins. A fellow that's been around the hobby for awhile had them made awhile back. I've had them for 3 or 4 years now just waiting to get all this going. His name is Walt Feiger. I don't know if he's got anymore or not.

If you think that's bad, wait until the 3rd one gets back from the sandblaster! It really was a fluke how I managed to get a hold of 3 of them, but I promise I'm not complaining!

I will probably end up selling at least one of them. I don't know if I should do it before or after painting them. I might be worried that a potential buyer wouldn't like the paint scheme that I do them in, so maybe better not to paint?

Maybe just do a primer job on it and have it all ready to go. I for one, have thought about buying different pumps that have been listed for sale but they always seem to be done in a brand that I don't care for and it keeps me from buying. Not because the pump wasn't worth it, just the cost of repainting it in the colors I would want! JM2C

Wow 3 pumps. Awesome to see the progress. I am no expert but my suggestion would be not to paint at all unless you have a buyer and the cash is in your hand. No doubt even if you just primered someone would say they did not the type of primer you used.
Just my 2 cents.

Dave,
Your starting to look like the Henry Ford of gas pumps. Famous Henry Ford quote.......It has been my observation that most people get ahead during the time that others waste. And Dave you ain't wasting no time! LOL....Looks Great!

Now that i have these kind of put together and able to stand on their own, they're going to have to go on the backburner for awhile. That G&B you may see in the one pic is the one I need to paint first. I can't decide what scheme to put that one into either!!

That sounds right. You got the pump mech and the top half of the pump went to CA.

OOPS! The Keeper didn't quite realize that we had accumulated 3 of these until she saw them all lined up in the garage. So as you might expect, you'll probably find a listing in the for sale section soon for at least 1 of them.

Close, but not quite as much. My goal when I started gathering pumps was to have a variety and the Keeper is right, 3 of the same is too many so one is going to go up for sale in the for sale section. Thanks for the comments and interest in these, I'll still keep the updates coming as I move towards painting.
