I was looking at old pics of Iowa Gas a while back and as a newbie saw a sign that looked very familar. I thought I'd share it with everyone.

For me it is more like a D.B.E.D. (drive by every day)

Cool picture, DasFast!

As the host of the FATW feature, I would like to request that, in the future, members wait until a particular installment has been started to post pictures, rather than starting a new installment themselves.

Thanks,

Here's a Wayne 511 blend pump wasting away in front of an old bulk plant building. I wonder what else is inside?

Not petro..... But I seen this big sunbeam bread sign on the side of a corner store. Sign is about 5ft X 3ft and tin. The store is in a really ruff section of Wilmington, de. Didn't stop me from trying to buy from the owner, he says it's real popular and has a lot of people ask about it. I guess it will rot away on the wall in another 30 years. Still very cool to see!!!!

see me at Mason Dixon Gas, Spring Carlisle M114-115, and Hershey C4E-35.

I used to live in the south bay area. I was about 45 minutes to an hour from the station then. I am now in the Sacramento area.

As you can imagine, NFS. Nothing. He has a couple pole signs in the yards as well, R.R Crossing, and signs inside the buildings as well.

I believe that the person who owns the barns and all those signs is out of Macquoketa,Ia. They are running a business, like the American Pickers. They run ads all the time wanting to buy old gas pumps, signs, etc. They have a website, if I could find it, that has the same barn on their home page. Everything is priced retail.

I can assure these are not the same people. The website may have used this picture, but definetly not the same people. This place is located just north of Washington, Iowa, about 15 minutes from Keota/Wellman area. As I stated, NFS.

Chad,
They must have used the same pic then. Every one in a while I see a Craiglist ad for a gas pump or sign and they have a link to their website that shows that same barn and signs. Perhaps they just used that same pic.

COULD BE AN OLD CROWN STATION IN PLAINVIEW, NY. PIC TAKEN ABOUT 5 YEARS AGO. THE ONLY THINGS MISSING ON THE BUILDING ARE THE SIGN EXTENSIONS ABOVE THE ROOFLINE IN THE RIGHT AND LEFT CORNERS. I BELIEVE CROWN WAS SOLD ON LONG ISLAND BACK IN THE LATE 60'S.

Doc, in 1953 or so, the station probably looked just like this one .

Here's a model of a typical Twin Chimney station

Yes that sign is in Macon. The deep rock is about 30 miles north of Kirksville, right off the highway.

I P- Med Doc on the "Chimneys " this former Crown station once had . Basicly the two towers actually held illuminated Crown signs that on a clear night were generally visable for a mile . Ed Shaver

Those are purely aesthetic elements, not functional. I understand that they were called Pylons, and were a common motif in the 50s and early 60s.

PYLONS AS YOU CALL THEM WERE NOT JUST A PART OF GAS STATION ARCHITECTURE, BUT ON SHOPPING CENTERS AS WELL.
