I kinda feel like an idiot but I made a deal for this sign and now I'm beginning to question it??? Theres no makers mark anywhere and it has the 2 extra holes near the bottom edge. I think I've seen some with those extra holes before? Also the top of the "h" is different than my old one and the P looks slightly different? Did I make a boo boo here or not? I have no idea if these were ever repopped or not? Hopefully someone can give me some insight! Ebay# 280603879642

I don't know by looking at it, but it seems like I've seen reproductions in that size. That one is in awful nice condition if it's real.

I've seen them in this kind of condition before but it did raise a red flag also.

There was a post about a reproduction Phillips 66 sign some time back. Below is the post. Good luck. I hope I'm wrong. http://www.oldgas.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=123256#Post123256The one in the prior post looks like your sign with the addition of the Ethyl logo. I would say that what you have is a reproduction, but others with more knowledge should be able to say for sure. The size and condition bothers me. In reading the guy's description, I don't see where he ever said it was an original, just a sign he had for a long time.

Here's a picture of one that sold at Matthews auction on Feb. 27. 2009. It has the two extra holes at the bottom also. This one sold for $525. Here's a picture of the one in question. Uploaded with ImageShack.usThe P & the H do look different. Bottom line......I don't know !

When I talked with the owner, he assurred me that it was original and Scotts picture helps a lot. The differences in the P and the H are so subtle that they're barely noticeable.

The reproduction Phillips 66 signs, I believe, are 25 1/2" in diameter. Yours is 29" as it should be. Is dated anywhere? I've seen some Phillips signs that are dated. One I've seen online was dated on the bottom s.p.s 1959.

Not dated but some aren't. No makers mark either tho?? Some are just marked VERIBRITE SIGNS. Measurers 29 1/2 by 29 1/2.

I'M THINKING IT MIGHT BE THE ANGLE OF HOW BOTH PICTURE ARE DISPLAYED, BUT THE LIGHTING IS GIVING 2 DIFFERENT TONES OF ORANGE.

The 66 is a little "fatter" on the Mathews one and is also has different ends to the 6's.

There was a topic in the repro forum several years ago about these signs. I don't remember the details. Pretty sure the repop was 29 1/2" just like the original. As for Kevin's sign, others have already pointed out the differences from the sign in Dan's auction. I looked at some pictures I had from another auction company and those matched the one Dan sold. Send the seller a link to this topic and see if he'll let you out of the deal.

Kevin, It sure looks like my curb sign that is in a frame and am sure its an original. The maker's name isn't legible but has "...IR NS CHICAGO" at the bottom point. It's in a frame but is approx. 29.5 in. wide and 29 5/8 tall. Mine has only the 2 holes which secure it to the frame. I sure wish mine was in the condition yours is in. Mine is stained with some liquid which took the gloss and the maker's name away. I hope this helps. Rod
