I didnt really have buys of the year but I have accomplished some thing that made my year. I got the look I was trying for. Well almost, I need to get the greasy well worn look. By the way if you get your nose right up against your computer screen you can smell the old gas station smell!! URL=http://img408.imageshack.us/i/officevbelts1.jpg/]

...looks like the original name of the establishment was something other than 'City Creek Inn', as those letters look a lot newer than the sign itself...it would be interesting to know what's under that pink paint...
You are correct, it was originally called Covered Wagon Motel. I do have an old photo how it looked back in 1954. It is one of the projects on my list to get it redone back to original.
Still looking for that Union 76 ball And I collect big old porcelain neon signs

I had several good buys this year, but this was my favorite. I was very happy to get this sign.

I would have to say my favorite buy of the year would be this rare Marathon globe. It was one of the globes I picked out of the books that I said someday I was going to own, and someday came thanks to Scott Benjamin. Take care, Darin Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Here's my personal favorites of the year...Two original NC partially embossed shields...a NC state part. embossed route 9 (I grew up near this road) and a Illi Route 66 Shield from the 50s...) Muchos thanks to Agentsteel here on oldgas (Jake) and my friend Robert for the NC signs! Not pure petro but if you were driving a car (which runs on petro/gas)...you'd have seen these on the side of the rd/hwy in western NC

Hey Grabber, Is Chimney Rock Park in the Smokey Mountains? I think we camped there every year as a kid. I remember it being Chimney someting. Now you can't camp there, it's just a picnic area. We use to see bears in camp every night. Cool sign!

Well I guess technically Chimney Rock Park is in the Blue Ridge Mountains...(its about 20 miles south of asheville nc...and is neighbor to Lake Lure NC...There are quite a few campgrounds in Chimney Rock and there are black bears all over the place there I think the Smokey Mountains start due west of Asheville however the blue ridge and smokey's are darn close to each other...These signs were put up all over western NC back in the day...most are fairly toasted though...I found this one on craigslist...when I called the guy selling it ended up being a friend of mine that was selling it She's on the keeper wall! Thanks for the kudos...if you go to dixie gas in the spring say hello...we're usually set up on the left side of the road going up the hill in front of the barn. Joey
