A friend of mine found this rare sign last week, he saw it just as the backhoe operator was putting the scrape/crease right down the middle. It was sitting in a pile of shingles and lumber for probably 50+ years only to get damaged the day it was found. Talk about a day late dollar short. It's mine now. 30" 2 sided porcelain

Don't you love the thrill of the hunt? Some of my favorite finds have been in junk yards and trask heaps.

Umm. . .make that TRASH heaps. Maybe I should spend more time proof-reading and less in "trask" heaps!

Too bad it did not "STAND UP UNDER FIRE" instead it just laid there and got scratched. Still a great looking sign.

That is the rarest and most expensive of the 30" and 42" early Pan Am signs....came out in the 20's and has the WW1 "doughboy".
in grade 8.5+ those signs bring anywhere from $5000-$7500. I have looked for years for that sign......great find, but terrible story...can't wait to see it cleaned up.

MAKES YA WONDER HOW A SIGN LIKE THAT FROM 50(?) YEARS AGO ENDED UP ON L.I. MUST HAVE DONE SOME TRAVELING BEFORE IT WAS STORED FOR SO LONG.
