I have been looking for the "Filling Station" Version of the 42" Texaco sign for a while. I have found 3 in the area but NONE were for sale for any dollar amount. I bought this one off ebay and the shipping was not to bad(the seller was close). I have heard books refer to these signs as "rare" but are they really that rare? I have seen a few of this version. I have some pictures from the 20's with this sign. This one is in "OK" condition which did not bother me because I like certain signs with a Patina look. Any info would be great! Enjoy!

They are from the teens. I know they are hard to find. Very rare to find one in excellent condition.

There's two types of these signs. One has a block letter style as shown above, the other is a script style (?) where the letters are much thinner. This (thinner style lettering) is the older of the two I believe.

Doc your sign is from 1930 or later where you have Gasoline/Motor Oil on it. In the logo you'll have REG. T.M., Signs with REG. U.S. PAT. OFF are from the twenties and are not dated. Never seen one dated anyway. Matter of fact I don't believe I've ever seen a Texaco sign dated earlier than 1930. Havoline Yes, Texaco No. Maybe a Black Face No Smoking Sign ?

You paid a good price for that single sided sign. : ) Your sign is from the teens more than likely. I can not give you exact years they were produced...
