I believe it may have been an officially licensed product from Mobil But not in he 50's. All the original ones I've seen had the Pegasus only, not the shield and they always had a date on the bottom. IMO it is a repop

I agree with John (but don't tell him!!). Mobil Oil Corporation didn't exist until 1966, so anything so marked would date to 1966 or later. I guess no earlier than the 1980's.

I asked the guy about them and then directed him to link that would bring him to this page. He told me that he would relay the message to all the bidders, but I have no idea if he did or not. I am by no means a clock expert, but all of the clocks that he has on ebay right now are in the condition that the Mobil is. Would have to question everyone of them.

the repo mobil plates has "licensed L2" or something.
old pam clock, new repo Mobil clock face
Remember:
that white face sure is white while the body shows usage all originals I've seen are yellowed with bugs or flaking (hot bulbs for 20+ years does that)
The only time I seen "licensed by" is on recent repo stuff.
Originals would simply have Socony -Vacuum or Mobil oil company on them w/o the "licensed" part. Just like original Coke and Texaco stuff. Just has the name of it on them.
My 2 cents

THE ONLY DIFFERENCE I SEE FROM THE ONE IN QUESTION AND WAYNE FACE IS THE LACK OF THE PRINTING ACROSS THE TOP. ALSO THE EBAY ONE SAYS NEW ROCHELLE AND WAYNE'S SAYS BROOKLYN.

It sold for close to $1,000.00, so I would have to question the seller after he told me in an email that he would tell all bidders that it has been brought to question that it is FAKE. He didn't tell a sole about it other than all of his clocks are in the exact same condition. Old clock backs that have been refurbished, with brand new faces.

I ran across this thread while trying to authenticate a clock I am looking at locally. Anyone familiar with a 20" diameter clock with a red rim, made by General Electric, with a shield (with pegasus) only about 4" high and located below the hands? Thanks in advance for any help!

sight unseen sounds made up, Mobil never skimped on advertising so I don't see where they would have a 4" shield on a 20" clock. Older clocks also only had the pegasus without a shield.
