Its an MS 70
Jacks book lists it as "unknown to be authentic".
It was always my thought that the script tops were only made with the MS80? Maybe someone else has some info on this??

I think 70's were also taller. I think somebody did some creative metal work.

GasPump Rob has an Original Script Top for a M&S 70 that he bought a couple of years ago at Iowa Gas. I've seen it & it's NOT homemade.
ebay pump looks to have been shortened like some other pumps we have seen [Erie 77, Wayne 60 & 70's, A-38, G&B 96, etc].

I like the OLD steel chair they painted yellow and threw a shell decal on! Great idea!

The one in Jacks book is mine and it's known by me to be authentic. smile The tops are different between the 70 and 80, both Mobilgas and Mobilgas Special out there.

Here is a picture from the auction where I got it, in the back middle. It also looks shorter than the white 70 behind it.

I think its a way better looking pump than the MS 80. I like the design of the pump better. Glad to know its a real deal. They must not have made a lot of them as all of the script tops that I've ever seen are the 80's

Maybe this weekend when I'm over at Rob's I'll check it w/ a 36B to see if it will fit!

That lid looks really odd on that 70. Not bad, just odd.

I too have never seen one, but I have been told that the top for the 70 will not fit the 80, so therefore it is authentic.
I have a M&S 70 parts manual, but it does not mention the tops. The cover of the manual says it is a Series 2, and the blue prints shown are dated 1939. It states the pump is 71 1/4" from the bottom to top (not including the globe holder).

The earliest date I can find for the 80 is 1946, but Tokheim had started making the shorter pumps in 1941, so maybe they were experamenting with a short 70 at that time. According to the Blue Book, some 70s were made after the war in 1946.

BTW, the Ebay auction states 1922, about 40 years off.

I guess I thought there were tall and short 70's like the Tok 39.
This was from the same auction.
