OK I know these ebay sellers have been brought up here before, but here is a new one they offered up (maybe not new, photo dates 4 yrs ago). I have no problems with selling repro fakes when they are described as such - but when the description reads like this it makes me mad:

http://cgi.ebay.com/McColl-Frontenac-Red...=item4aa9383760

"A very hard to find sign by my research. ..No patent date or any other information on this sign. "

Well... Thats is because IT IS BRAND NEW and they know it. I guess if one schmuck out of every thousand believes that BS then they make a sale.

"We are Constantly Shopping at Auctions, Estates Clean-Outs, Flea Markets, Farm Shows, Storage Auctions, and Private collections and more to bring you the best Collectible's at reasonable prices"

"No returns"

Well, sellers can say "no returns" all they want, but the simple truth is that pretty much anything on ebay that is paid with paypal can be returned. On items less than $200 it's a rubber stamp approval...over that, they actually look at the case, but it's a 99.99% yes.

They have also listed a Texaco Marine pump plate this morning (another reproduction) with the same description.

They have also been selling reproduced Texaco Farm Lubricants signs lately as well (with no reference to them being reproduced).

I asked why they aren't mentioning in their description the term "Reproduction" in their current running auction for the same sign. I doubt I'll get an answer. Just figured I throw a guilt trip at them LOL!

30 days to return...which really is BS for sellers because most major stores have only a 2 wk return policy now. I believe you pay return shipping, but you can argue over that also now.

Just for reference - here is a real Red Indian sign.

As you can see - they didn't even try to duplicate the lettering.

Later . . .

I emailed the guy and told asked him if it was a reproduction (to see if at least an honest response would come back). He answered "yes it is", so he knows it is a reproduction for sure. I also think the listing is dishonest. We all know the "buyer beware" story, but sellers have an obligation too...

Obviously ebay can't or doesn't want to spend much time fixing these issues... they're busy counting how much fee they make off each item sold.

Always looking for Red Indian Tins, McColl Frontenac, McColl Bros., Buffalo (prarie cities oil co), Stellarene and other western canadian tins.
