I bought this old gas pump globe and really don't know alot about globes. The globe seems to have a sticker in the middle but the rest is painted. I took the lens out to maybe see if the sticker was covering anything and I didn't see anything on the back side of the lens. It is a 15" globe. What do you guys think?
Thanks, Nick

WOW! That's a beauty! Despite the PATINA and general wear, it's sort of an unusual combination to make a lens (paint & decal).

Did you buy this globe at an auction somewhere near northern Ky? I'm pretty positive I saw it on auctionzip several months ago. Just wondered if you had bought it from that auction. I tried to find some info on it but never could. Couldn't make it to the auction either. Neat globe though.

looks like an old painted lens..very rare, very hard to find in that shape...if you sell it make sure you describe it well, some folks out there don't realize what painted lenses look like that are really old and wine and moan about it later....but its a killer. should bring around $1150-$1350...IS IT A SINGLE LENS?
Always looking for good Pure stuff, dude...

haha...Thanks Phil, but I think I'll keep it for a little while anyway.
"Oldnfuelish" How do I get a hold of either one of those guys?
Thanks "The Brain"! Wow...I would have never guessed it might be worth that much. Their are two lenses but the other one just says ethyl and I dont think the two go together (but they could). I will get a picture of the other side up sometime this afternoon. I dont know a lot about globes but there was just something about the way the lens looked and how it was painted that made me wanna take a chance on it.
Thanks, Nick

Chip:
What we'd really like to see is the backside of the 'orange' lens.
Painted with a decal is not the same as fully painted or a regular screened/fired lens. And . . . is all the lettering/decal on the front, lettering on the backside, decal on the front . . . ?
And the type of 'decal' makes a difference. Is it a 'stick-on' decal or a so-called Porcelain 'fired-on' decal.
In the end - the lens(es) are worth what you can get somebody to pay for them. You can ask any amount - but until they change hands, it's just a number for discussion.
Especially for a company(?) no one has heard of.
Later . . .
Jim

Wayne Henderson and I are looking into this one. Never seen it. Globe appears to have a hand painted outside logo and obviously a decal in the center. There was an "Oil Products Company" that bought out Hurricane Gasoline from Shreveport, Louisiana, but we are not sure this is the same company. Wayne will look into this more tonight when he gets home and may post something then. Decal globes and or had painted globes bring very little money unless it's a factory decal globe like a Sinclair US Motor Specs but even those don't fetch more than $500-$600. Okay.
That's a frosted lens that was hand-painted on the front of the lens by a lettering guy with a regular water-slide decal added to the center.
I agree with Scott on the value.
Later . . .

Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...
