We are restoring what we believe (no name/i.d. plate found) to be a Tolkhem 870. Its a tapered, square bodied, clock face pump, and looks an aweful lot like one pictured in some of the books we have. However, this one has a "ledge" at the waistline, which seems to distinguish it from the others we've seen in pictures. Is this a rarer version of the 870 pump or are we off track. I know a picture would help you answer my question, but am unable to post one right now. Has anyone seen an 870 with a ledge, or better still, does anyone have a picture(s)of such a thing? Thanks in advance for your replies. BH

Thanks, Pogogas, for the email and picture. I'm still thinking its a Tokheim, but it is square and tapered like the Wayne 730/576. Ours differs from the Wayne 730/576 in two significant ways... ours has a rectangular clock face instead of round clock face; and the ledge, base, and cap arent as "dramatic" as on the 730/576... the proportions of these components are smaller on our pump. Thanks again, Pogogas. Hopefully this clarification may help. BH

The 870 with a ledge is the 870-A, introduced in 1933. This was probably Tokheim's last use of the clock meter in a pump sold for retail use. Pumps that had clock meters after 1934 were sold as non-computing pumps. I have ads, sales literatue and parts/repair manuals for this pump. It is also shown in my new gas pump identification book due out May 10, 2002. If interested in the literature, please email me at: jhsim@swbell.net

Brian, I'll send you a photo of both pumps from my literature. The 870 has no center casting but the 870-A does... Ron Scobie

Thank you Jack and Ron for the replies and the pics. Very helpful to know what we have and to see an original photo and to confirm appearance. Will reciprocate when possible. BH
