Diesels~ Western Auto Sign find post inspired me to share a do-dad I acquired a few years back. I had always intended to post a pic but you know.... lol! Any way the story on this one.... A lady in towns house burned down and there was a big donation drive to supply her with clothing and household items. This piece was in a lot of donated items. She didn't know what it was but knew I collected old stuff and gave it to me! Never seen another, has anyone else? Garage~A~GoGo

So what is the principal behind the cooling? The cool water in bag deflected the hot air from passing through the radiator core? I've always wondered that

The air passing through the bag (and then through the radiator) helped keep the water cool and didn't really block the radiator opening. We still used the bags in the 70s, when I lived in Barstow. A long lonely drive to Vegas, especially if one's radiator started to boil over.
The bag on ebay advertises Veedol Tractor Oil on one side and Eagle Drinking Water Bag on the other. Ebay #350361545290

Outer canvas was made wet & as it evaporated it would pull heat out of the inner part [water] just as our bodies do when we sweat & cools our body.
Brings back another memory, the Window Swamp Cooler. Before AC became almost a standard item on most cars, those that could afford the Window Swamp Cooler used then during the summer & especially while traveling across the desert areas.

I posted this picture before but not for the water bags hanging on the doors. I have two swamp coolers one goes in the window and the other sets inside the car and has a electric motor and fan that circulates the air and pumps the water. I'll dig them out someday and post pictures of them so the kids can see what DB is talking about. Mitch
