Has anyone ever used or heard of using muriatic acid to clean a porcelain sign with.

yes but it will take the gloss away if you let it stay too long

YES!
1. USE IT OUTDOORS BECAUSE OF THE FUMES
2. USE LONG RUBBER GLOVES
3. DO NOT KEEP THE ACID ON THE PORC FOR MORE THAN A FEW MINUTES OR IT WILL DULL THE FINISH.

Thanks for the help. The sign I was going to use this on doesn't really have any rust. The guy I got the sign from said to use that stuff to clean it. Its a 6' Be Sure With Pure sign w/pole and I don't want to mess it up.

Go SLOW & Take your time. Try oven cleaner 1st, then IF you have to get more aggressive.

I used boat hull cleaner ( by safe bright) on my porcelian pumps with scotch bright and it takes rust stains and cleans with out affecting shine use rubber gloves because it also has an acid base.
